We are currently in production for our first feature documentary. The working title is The British Film Industry.

This is an unfunded independent project and we are progressing off our own resources. We are 20 slates in with many industry professionals and we have some A-listers/legendary industry figures prepared to give us interviews in the forthcoming months

We do not have distribution in place but we are hoping to circuit the film festivals in the hope that our film will be picked up and/or have a national broadcast; but we are fully prepared for this film to end up on You Tube or even our own websites and you should be prepared for this also.

We are looking for a filmmaker to follow which would form part of our documentary. We believe that the talent is definitely out there, but we would like to see someone who is dedicated and have essentially given up their life to fulfil their aspirations. We are looking for a filmmaker who has experience of maybe making short films but is now at the stage of wanting to produce their first feature film. You must have your script ready and be seeking finance to be able to make your film and you may be trying to get actors/producers/crew and investors to finance your film. We want to know if you have had success in trying to raise your finance through a screen agency/BFI/lottery grants and what your previous experiences have been with these organisations.

We would like to follow you on your journey as you try to raise interest for your feature film and what we hope that we can offer you in return is the potential for your film to get help and exposure as we wish to highlight the difficulties and potential successes that can be achieved in producing an independent film.

If you are interested in being part of our documentary then please do get in contact and we can discuss the project with you if further detail.

Thank You and hope to hear from you soon.

We at RKD Films are lucky enough to have been accepted by Channel 4 as independent producers who can submit ideas directly to Channel 4 rather than approach other bigger and more established production companies.

Having worked in the TV industry for so many years on a variety of productions and having previously produced pilots such as for Carlton Food Network “Spice It Up”, we always felt as though it was difficult to take proposals to other production companies because your idea was either stolen, dismantled or you would be a threat to them. Having experienced ideas being stolen we felt extremely discouraged to try to break down the barriers with commissioning editors, until now.

Luckily, for us Channel 4 has opened a portal for us to send ideas directly to them and show some of the talent within our company and we are hoping to open this out to others.

We would no longer advise anybody to go out there and to produce your own production off your own back as a pilot because it costs a fortune and without the correct support, You Tube maybe your only option which is not necessarily so bad but if your intention is broadcast then you might be fighting a fruitless battle.

Why should you send your ideas to us?

We stand by our reputation for being honourable and encouraging to all artists. Although we are a small production company, we believe that everyone has the power to generate fantastic ideas for television and if you can do it once then you can do it repeatedly. Therefore, it is in our interest and everyone’s interest to help nurture your talent and give you equal rewards for your ideas.

This has long been an overlooked problem within the industry, even though it will never be admitted. Just see how much of your TV is only showing American developed programmes, repeats or reality to death.

We are not guaranteeing anybody success but if we feel passionate about your idea then we will work with you to help develop your idea and then we will submit it into Channel 4, after all what have you got to lose. If it is lucky enough to get to the next step then we will take you along with us for the journey and you will receive an equal share and credit for your idea.

http://www.channel4.com/info/commissioning/4producers

Please do check out the type of programmes produced by Channel 4 and send in your ideas to us.

Please write a maximum of one A4 page per idea, clearly marking the correct genre and all your contact details.

We will try our best to contact you as soon as we have read your proposal.

If you are still worried about your idea please check out this link with our good old friends Bectu and register your script/idea for proof of authorship, please bear in mind that this can generally be done with detailed proposals but it is worth checking out – http://www.bectu.org.uk/advice-resources/script-registration

Preliminary deadline is 31st October 2011

For further information or advice, you can contact us via email Ideas@RKDFilms.com

Good Luck!

With a small budget, is it possible to make a quality video for your business? Yes it is.

Is it true that the more money you spend the better video advert you will have? No it is not

Are you a business such as a florist or restaurant? Do you wish to introduce a product into the market? Are you a service provider such as a plumber, builder or even a SEO developer? Are you a charity or a not for profit group? Whoever you are you should think about setting up a media department within your own organisation which can be very expensive or you should look at hiring a professional video production company who offer value in order to help you market yourself better.

Budgets are being slashed and organisations are closing all over the UK and at this time the importance of video marketing has never been greater. Video marketing gives you the opportunity to show your funders how vital you are to the community, or your customers that you are the best and that you can be trusted.

The more you spend never guarantees you an effective video marketing campaign, also a snazzy idea is not always necessarily key to bringing you more business or giving you the exposure you may need, but professionally compiled shots with focus, constructive and audible sound and a clear cut plan is what will make you stand out from the crowd.

You may decide to ask a student to film your video or maybe do it yourself and no doubt errors most likely will be made, the quality may be questionable and it may end up costing more money or more importantly more time. If producing a video this way is your only option then we would advise you to go for it, otherwise you may risk being left behind in such a media and social marketing driven economy. If you do have a bit of finance or marketing budget then we would recommend contacting your local video production company who have the experience to be able to deliver a video to you with high standards. Always haggle the price because they also need the work and would rather offer you a discounted video rather than you calling their competitors.

Also do not, I repeat do not be dazzled by High Definition, more production companies are offering True HD when in reality it is not true HD, just check the price difference between a HD TV and a HD Ready TV and ask yourself the question why that is? True HD is still very expensive, also not everyone has the internet speeds to watch your video in HD seamlessly which can have a negative effect so there really is no point spending so much more money.

Building your media presence is vitally important for all organisations big or small, so don’t wait until it is too late.

We tend to keep our overheads to a bare minimum in order to mainly pass on the benefits to our clients.

Is there any other organisation out there that would be willing to offer a price promise for a professional video production service?

We at RKD Films are proud to tell you that once we have agreed a price with you, we will do everything in our power to complete the video within the agreed price, even if it means that we have to do another days filming or spend another day in the edit suite. As we understand that when filming is organised especially within the charity sector and public services sector that sometimes not all things go to plan and so a contingency is a necessity. We would like to publicly announce that we understand and will support you throughout the process.

Our price promise is that if you do find any other comparable quote we will match it and even try to beat it by a minimum of £100.

So what are you waiting for!

What can we say about 3D? As a video production company we are supposed to say that 3D is the future and soon everyone will be producing nothing but 3D videos and movies, but we do like to buck the trend at RKD Films and we are thinking out loud so please bear with us.

3D is a fantastic tool when done correctly and you do expect all the major brands in the world to have already begun filming 3D advertisements for Television and the Cinema such as car adverts for instance, which we think is justified.

But we are ashamed of the major movie studios that would turn a movie that has no right to be 3D into a 3D movie in order to purely make more money at the box office. The glasses are uncomfortable at best, as they steam up during the screening and just damage the film watching experience, although the technology used with the new Nintento 3DS will be very interesting, which we are yet to have a peak at. Toy Story 3 and The Green Hornet are just two films amongst the mass who shamelessly profiteer from this racket, unless as a viewer you ingest a batch of LSD which will then not require you to wear glasses at all, but we would not recommend that. Whereas films such as all Robert Zemeckis Films and Alice in Wonderland by Tim Burton are fully justifiable who may I add is the modern day Pablo Picasso due to his visionary genius. Also ask yourself the question, why was Inception not in 3D? Was James Cameron too eager with Avatar?

Coming back to the future, we are wondering how many years it will take until Minority Report style hologram projections will become a reality and also be affordable for everyone to have this technology. The organisations who develop or introduce this technology will no doubt become multi billionaires overnight, but most likely this tech is already available but all the major companies are waiting for the market to consume 3D before 3D Hologram is introduced.

How about this theory? If you use a minimum of four camera’s to film an object from four different angles and then project all four angles using four projectors into the centre of the room then is this not a possibility? Obviously you need the projectors to project onto some sort of screen, but with advancements in technology there is a possibility that using laser, air particles and with the correct lighting conditions the projection may be visible to the naked human eye.

Don’t get us wrong we are sure that there is a lot more to it than that, for instance joining all four angle seamlessly, algorithms and countless amounts of research, but just imagine that movies and home entertainment will no longer be in the corner of the room or mounted on a wall on a flat screen TV, instead it will be visible from all angles in the centre of the room or wherever you want it to be. It can be presented life size without deterioration of quality, and you can walk around the 3D image so that all you guys out there can see Angelina Jolie or all you girls out there can see Brad Pitt life size and from possibly all angles which will possibly be the demise for Madam Tussauds…sorry. Just imagine the educational value of such technology as demonstrated in Iron Man

Don’t worry we are sure you are right and thinking that RKD Films have lost their minds and have no clue regarding how this is practically possible. We don’t think 3D was ever a revolution as it dates back to 1915, instead with all the digital technology available 3D Hologram Home Entertainment is just around the corner and this will truly blow your minds.

Check it out for yourself and tell us how excited you are.

Ok so you have decided to make a video to help promote your business or service, but before you go any further you have to decide how you are going to do this.

As well as thinking about your budget, product or service and who you wish to target you have to make a serious decision. Do you want to film it yourself using your domestic home camera?

If you have financial problems but you think that a video will help your business then our advice would be to just go ahead and make it. No matter what others say to you that the quality of the film could be detrimental to your business or service we say that you might as well have something than nothing, but in the end of the day it all depends on what your business and service is and how you feel you wish to portray your business to the market and your potential customers? But as mentioned in previous blogs, using web videos to promote oneself is on the up, and will soon be an absolute must for every business as a sole trader and corporation as it is most likely that every potential customer who searches on the internet will more likely use the services of someone they have already been introduced too via a video.

Other organizations who are charging you stupid amounts is not justified in today’s climate and we do hope that you find us through the magic of web and give us the opportunity to help you and your business.

We can also help you and advise you on the best methods to help promote your video further, as this is in our interest as it also promotes our service.

Ok it is now time for us to send out a call for all wannabe and trained professional actors.

We plan to at least begin preliminary filming this year for our feature film. But before we tell you the criteria we would like to be totally honest and tell you our position.

We have no money and we will not be seeking any financial assistance by anyone to make this film. We will only seek funds once the film is finished to aid in marketing and distribution.

The script is also not finished, in fact it is in early stages and we do not intend to even tell anyone the idea until we have secured the lead role, the only information we can give is that this film is a 90 minute docu-drama, which will involve some improvisation and some setups.

The film will consist of a three man crew the Camera/Director and a sound recordist and our lead actor. We will use other actors and actresses in small parts as they interact with the lead.

You will not be paid for taking part in this film which we are sorry about, but what we can offer is all expenses including the flight and board to the states. We are in fact seeking an actor that we can work very closely with, we want you to have serious input into the script and work with us as a team in true collaboration and for this we will give you a contract and make you a co producer on this film. If we can sell the film and it makes us money then it will make you money.

Once the film is complete we will obviously try to sell the film, but worst case scenario that we fail and cannot sell the film then this film will be uploaded onto the net and be made available for free to the public.

We plan to film for approximately 6 weeks, 3 weeks in the UK and 3 weeks in America including LA; France may also possibly be a location.

Here is where we get more selfish, we would like all the actors, especially the lead to be based in Birmingham and be made available to us night and day when it suits us to film for 3 weeks in the UK. The lead will also be available to travel with us to America for 3 weeks and it is highly possible that the full 6 weeks may not be in succession and we may take a filming break between UK and America. We will also be seeking actors and actresses in LA and another part of America TBC.

We are seeking a male 25 to 40 for the lead role and we understand that this is very vague but we would like to keep our options open, as we said the script is still not complete and nothing is confirmed. We would like to meet as many people as possible and seek the right person to fill the shoes, which in turn also helps us to complete the script. All other actors and actresses who are interested in taking part please do send us your headshot and CV.

So after hearing all this if you feel you would like to take this journey with us then please do contact us via email at RKD Films.

It may also help you to understand us if you read some of our blogs.
