Feature Documentary
“This business lives on creative pathfinders……and were in terrible danger” – Sir David Lean
Do you know what a British film is? With the success of The Kings Speech you would be foolish to think that we are the true kings, more the jokers of the world film community.
RKD Films & Cinemarx (www.Cinemarx.co.uk) are currently filming our feature documentary about the British Film Industry – our title is still anonymous as it will be based on our evidence.
We have no immediate pending deadline for our documentary as we have consciously decided to produce the whole film off our own backs without the pressures and interference from any commissioner or distributor. Not that we think this would impede the production but we feel this is the only way for us and the contributors to really speak from the heart. Although we are currently looking for private investment to help with the production, so if there are any interested parties who would like to get there first Executive Producer credit then please do contact us, and we will be happy to send you the confidential information pack.
Even though we are ambitious in this endeavour we are fully prepared to show the finished film on You Tube or on the RKD Film’s website if all else fails, but our only goal is to make sure this film is seen.
The documentary will encompass interviews, animation and rotascoping and will look at the grass roots of film makers and how we do as a region in the West Midlands and as a nation. Where do we stand as a country in comparison to Europe? Where is the money really spent and who is in charge of the public funds that is pumped into the industry?
Rest assured the film will be no holds barred and we will give the audience the opportunity to make up their own minds with our evidence.
We intend to interview many industry professionals and as much of Britain’s talent that have had little choice but to leave the country such as Christopher Nolan. As well as legends such as Lord Puttnam to give inspiration on what is needed to revive the industry and to comment on how they think the industry is performing.
The NOTW phone hacking scandal is just a drop in the ocean as many more industries seem to think that ethics is something that can be waived with a conflict of interest document!
We have been lucky enough to hear back from many potential contributors such as representatives of Kenneth Branagh, Sir Ben Kingsley, Lord Richard Attenborough, Lord David Puttnam, Terry Gilliam, Ken Loach, Dame Helen Mirren and we are still hoping to hear from many more, but rest assured that this film will see the light of day and promises to be entertaining and informative.
Update 5th December 2011
We feel we have reached a milestone in our documentary with 30 slates and we are still going strong as our passion and commitment is intensifying with each and every interview.
All our interviews have been inspiring and we promise that this documentary will be informative, educational, entertaining and eye opening for even the most experienced industry professional.
We have interviewed an Oscar winning legend to a feature filmmaker with a budget of £800.
We are also seeking a Producer who can contribute to our film so please do contact us.
Update 27th January 2012-01-27
We have begun filming for our documentary again with many scheduled interviews with some fantastic film makers, distributors and some fantastic industry insiders, which will all be revealed with the trailer and the title of the film.
With countless hours of expanding footage we begin post in February, hoping for a rough cut by the end of summer and the release of the trailer in July.
